Spin Adjectives Nouns and Verbs is an advanced version of Silly Sentences and works best with older or more advanced writers. It’s more challenging because it involves combining three words to make a sentence instead of two.

Setting Up the Game:
You will need three magnetic spinners, so buying the pack of 3 at Amazon* works great. If you haven’t read my full post on the winner spinner you won’t want to miss it! It gives you a long list of game ideas that are so easy to run and super fun for the kids. Check out the full post here.
First, draw three circles on the board and divide them into 4 sections.
To make it more challenging, you can certainly divide the circles into 8 sections. The group that I was working with was challenged enough by the three circles and incorporating too many words would have been too much. Use your discretion here.
Adjectives Nouns and Verbs
Next, write the word ADJECTIVES above the left circle. Above the middle circle, write the word NOUNS. Above the right circle, write the word VERBS.
Third, quickly remind the campers that an adjective describes something, a noun is a person place or thing and a verb is an action word. I asked individual campers to give me words to fill each circle.
Having the students choose the words is SO IMPORTANT! This is where they engage. They get to choose words that are fun or funny for them.
Now to Play!
I divide the group into pairs. I give each pair a small white board, dry erase marker and a sock to serve as an eraser. You can purchase a class pack on Amazon*.
Two Students Spin!
A pair of campers spin the wheels.
Students Write
One partner in each pair takes a turn writing a sentence using all three words. The sentence can be normal or super silly!
In order to earn a point, the sentence has to have a capital letter, spacing, correct spelling and a punctuation at the end.
Once they’ve completed their sentence, they don’t say anything. They just hold up their white board.
Earning Points
I look at it. If there is one mistake, I hold up 1 finger. If there are 2 mistakes, 2 fingers, 3 mistakes, 3 fingers, 4 mistakes, 4 fingers. When there are no mistakes, give them a thumbs up and they tally a point. Students who have a mistake continue to correct the sentence until they get a thumbs up.
Campers who get a thumbs up right away can keep writing new sentences, earning more points, until each camper has finished their one sentence. Once each pair has correctly written the sentence, then we move onto the next turn.
Continue play until the everyone has had a turn to spin or the time allotted runs out!
