Here’s a quick and easy way to focus on spelling. Scramble a word. Students write it out!
Common Core State Standards
NOTE: This game can address the following Common Core Standards: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.1.2.D, L.3.2.E, L.3.2.F, RF.K.1.B, RF.K.3, RF.1.2, RF.1.3, RF.2.3, RF.3.3, RF.4.3 and RF.5.3
Scramble a Word
On a white board in front of the group, (a chalkboard or Smart Board can work fine too), I write the letters to a word in mixed fashion. (The pictures posted are from the time we focused on adjectives.)

For smaller groups, I use the large classroom whiteboard. I divide it into 4-5 sections. 4-5 students can take a turn at a time unscrambling the word on the large whiteboard.
For larger groups, I divide the students into pairs.
I give each pair an individual whiteboard, dry erase marker and sock (to serve as erasers. You can purchase a class pack on Amazon*.
The children race to write the word correctly. I wait for all campers to complete the word before moving on to the next turn.
The game continues until your allotted time for the activity runs out!
