In this game, I say an adjective or write one on a whiteboard at the front of the class. (chalkboards and Smart Boards work just as well). The campers have 2 minutes to write nouns that the adjective describes.

Here’s how the game goes:
- I divide the group into pairs. I give each pair a small white board, black dry erase marker and a sock to serve as an eraser. (You can purchase a class set on Amazon* if you’d like.)
2. I write an adjective on the board and set the timer on my phone to 2 minutes.
3. One partner writes nouns for two minutes. The other partner can help by saying words to add.
4. At the end of the two minutes, the campers stop writing. I choose a pair to read off their list, one word at a time. If anyone else in the group wrote the same word, the word gets erased on all boards. If the word is unique, the pair that wrote it gets to tally a point for that word on their board.
Having each pair read off their lists takes a bit of time, but surprisingly the campers remain engaged through it all and each pair is eager to read their lists.
Because of the time it takes, we usually only get through, at most, 4 words in one day’s lesson.
The children below are responding to the words “squeaky”.
