Nouns Adjectives Verbs-60 Seconds

This game focuses on nouns, adjectives and verbs.  I have many campers who genuinely forget what a noun, adjective or verb is.  This is a great game to review and practice them!

Setting Up the Game:

You’ll need two magnetic spinners*.  If you haven’t read my full post on the winner spinner you won’t want to miss it!  It gives you a long list of game ideas that are so easy to run and super fun for the kids.  Check out the full post here.

Two Circles

First, draw two circles on the whiteboard.  Divide the first circle on the left into 16 sections.

Next, ask your students to give you a letter for each space (16 letters all together).

Then, divide the second circle into 3 equal sections.  Write the word nouns in one section, adjectives in the 2nd section and verbs in the third section.

Smaller Groups

For smaller groups (up to 8) I divide the board into 4 sections.  A pair is assigned to each section.

Larger Groups

For larger groups, or if I don’t have a classroom whiteboard, I divide the group into pairs.  I give each pair a small white board, dry erase marker and a sock to serve as an eraser.  You can purchase a class pack on Amazon*.

  

Two campers spin.  I set my phone timer for 60 seconds.

Then, one partner in each pair takes a turn writing a list of nouns, adjectives or verbs that begin with the letter spun.

Once the 60 seconds is up, campers can tally their words and keep their own score on their whiteboard (or above their section on the larger board).

NOTE:  I also played this with my 1st Grade son at home.  Instead of setting the timer for 60 seconds, he simply had to write ONE word for each turn.  Vary it according to your child’s ability!
